Europe's Data & ML hiring is up 4%, but no single employer runs the show

There are 2,841 open Data & ML Engineer roles across Europe right now, posted by 1,216 companies. New postings are up 4% over the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before that. A typical role stays open for a median of 31 days before it closes.
Capgemini has more open roles than anyone else, 137 of them. But even if you add up all eight of the biggest employers, they only account for 12% of all open roles in this market. Hiring here is spread across well over a thousand companies, not concentrated in a handful of names.
Underneath that overall growth, individual employers are moving in opposite directions. PWC's new postings fell 72% from the previous 30 days to the last 30. Accenture went the other way, with new postings up 41% over the same stretch.
Python is the most asked-for skill, showing up in 63% of postings, with AI and machine learning close behind at 52%. Certifications barely register: Databricks certification appears in just 1% of postings, and PMP in almost none.
Most postings ask for a median of 5 years of experience, and only 9% of open roles are listed as remote. Pay is rarely posted, so you'll often need to ask about salary yourself rather than see it listed.

- Don't chase just the big names
The top 8 employers, including Capgemini, only hold 12% of open roles among 1,216 companies hiring. Widen your search past the biggest logos to find where the volume actually is.
- Lead with Python and AI skills
Python appears in 63% of postings and AI and machine learning in 52%, well ahead of specific cloud platforms or certifications. Make sure these show up clearly if you have them.
- Plan for office or hybrid, not remote
Only 9% of open roles are listed as remote, so most hiring here expects you on site at least part of the time. Factor that into which roles you apply for.
