A market in motion, not on pause
Ashney is tracking 131,574 open roles across 23,561 companies, counted by reading each employer's own career page rather than a job board. In the last seven days those companies opened 13,990 new roles. That is not a hiring freeze. It is a market that moves too fast to watch by hand.
Speed is the story underneath the volume. The median role closes 24 days after it appears, so by the time a listing reaches the large boards, much of its window is already gone.
Engineering sets the floor
Across the senior-tech functions Ashney classifies, Software Engineer alone is 37% of open roles. Data / ML, TPM and Product form a clear second tier; everything below is a specialist market in the low thousands.
Data Analyst roles are the freshest, 60% posted in the last 30 days. Engineering Management, PMM, Product Ops and DevRel add 5,939 more.
One country, then everyone else
United States holds 45,270 open roles, 34% of everything tracked, more than India, Europe, United Kingdom, Canada, Remote, Singapore added together. But raw size hides the tempo: India posted 7,074 roles this month against 12,262 open, a churn near 58%, the fastest of any large market.
Australia, Ireland, Japan and UAE add 3,701 roles; another 40,654 carry unspecified locations.
Ashney reads companies' own applicant-tracking systems directly, hourly, not job boards. A role counts as open until it disappears from the source, and posted uses the employer's own date. Counts exclude duplicate reposts and staffing-agency listings. Region reflects the location stated on the listing; roles with no normalized country are held out of the regional shares above.
Figures are a snapshot at publication. This report refreshes weekly; the Ashney app scores new roles for members hourly. Week-over-week movement arrows begin with next week's issue, once a second weekly snapshot is in. Sample this issue: 131,574 open roles across 23,561 active companies.
Every report Ashney publishes: one function, one region, read at the source.
You don't need 131,574 roles.
You need the three that fit.
Ashney reads every new role against your résumé and surfaces only the ones worth your time, with the one honest gap on each.
