Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
Right now there are 323 open customer support roles in Australia, spread across 230 companies, so no single employer dominates this market. But new hiring has slowed: postings in the last 30 days are down 24% compared with the 30 days before. The weekly figures tell the same story. The week of 7 September was the busiest week for new roles, and the week of 26 October came in 51% below that peak.
If you are applying now, you have time on your side. The median listing stays open 28 days before it is filled, so there is no need to rush an application the day you see it. Unisys and Vodafone lead the hiring list, with Centorrino Technologies also near the top, but together the top 8 employers hold only 14% of all open roles. That tells you hiring is spread across many companies rather than packed into a few big names.
Experience requirements here are modest. The median minimum experience asked for is 3 years, and only 2% of roles want 10 or more years. By title, 82% of open roles are mid-level, so this is a market built mostly around people with some experience already, not entry-level newcomers or senior specialists.
Do not expect to work from home: only 5% of open roles are remote, so plan on being in an office or on-site. Pay is rarely listed too, just 5% of postings state it, too few to say what the market typically pays. On skills, Microsoft Windows comes up most often, named in 16% of postings.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Apply without rushing
Roles stay open a median 28 days, so you have time to put together a solid application instead of rushing it the day a posting goes live.
- Mid-level experience fits best
Only 2% of roles ask for 10 or more years of experience, and 82% are mid-level titles, so a few years in the field covers most openings here.
- Plan for on-site work
Only 5% of open roles are remote, so expect most customer support positions to require you in an office or on-site rather than working from home.
Momentum
New Customer Support roles each week
Last 30 days: 103 new roles, against 136 the 30 days before (-24%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
