Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
Marketing hiring in Australia looks strong on a 30-day view: 171 new roles went up in the latest 30 days, against 149 in the 30 days before, a 15% rise. But look week by week and the picture shifts. The week of 12 October was the peak, with 50 new roles. By the week of 26 October, that had fallen to 31, a drop of 38% from the peak. The month is up, but the pace inside it has eased.
Once a role goes up, it tends to stay open a while: the median is 26 days. That is not a fast market. With 487 roles open across 285 companies, there is no single employer dominating: the top 8 named employers, including WPP Media, COTTON ON, Dentsu Aegis and RACV, hold just 15% of all open roles between them. This is a market spread across many smaller hiring companies rather than a few giants.
Experience bars sit on the higher side. Among the roles that state a minimum, the median ask is 5 years, and 10% of all postings want 10 years or more. Seniority leans mid-level overall: 58% of titles are mid, with senior at 17% and principal at 12%, so there is real room above entry level but not much at junior, which sits at 6%.
If you work in digital channels, the skill list is familiar: CRM is named in 14% of postings, AI and machine learning in 10%, and Meta Ads and TikTok each in 9%. Salesforce, Google Analytics and Instagram each turn up in 6%. Certifications barely feature: Prosci is named in just 1% of roles, and CFA and CIMA in effectively none. Remote work is rare too, at just 5% of open roles, and pay is almost never stated, so there is not enough posted pay data to say what this market pays.
By industry, e-commerce leads the ask rate at 9%, just ahead of healthcare, retail and financial services, each at 7%, with SaaS close behind at 6%. None of these stand far apart from the others, so this is a market where marketing skills cross sectors rather than one industry driving demand.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Expect a slower hiring pace right now
The week of 26 October saw 31 new roles, down 38% from the October peak of 50. The 30-day total is still up 15%, but do not expect the fastest week to repeat immediately.
- Brush up on CRM and paid social tools
CRM appears in 14% of postings, AI and machine learning in 10%, and Meta Ads and TikTok each in 9%. These show up far more often than any certification, including Prosci at just 1%.
- Aim mid to senior, not junior
58% of open titles are mid-level and 17% senior, against only 6% junior. The median minimum experience asked is 5 years, and 10% of roles want 10 years or more.

New Marketing roles each week
Last 30 days: 171 new roles, against 149 the 30 days before (+15%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
