This week's read

Marketing hiring in Canada picked up speed this autumn. In the last 30 days, 577 new roles opened, up 31% from the 440 posted in the prior 30 days. The busiest week was 19 October, with 185 new postings. The week after, 26 October, brought 159, a drop of 14% from that peak, so the surge has already come off its highest point even as the monthly total still runs well ahead of a month ago.

There are 1,121 open marketing roles right now, spread across 592 different companies. No single employer dominates: the eight biggest hirers, including Dentsu Aegis, WPP Media, Directive and CBCRC, together hold just 10% of all open roles. If you are applying, that means casting a wide net matters more than chasing a handful of big names.

Pay is posted on 42% of roles, 477 postings in all, so you often have to ask. Where it is shown, the typical range across all levels is C$85k to C$110k. By level, mid roles (296 postings) typically run C$75k to C$95k, senior and lead roles (109 postings) C$86k to C$119k, and director roles (68 postings) C$121k to C$155k.

Most postings, 56%, are mid level, with senior at 16% and principal at 14%. Experience bars sit around a median minimum of 5 years, and only 10% of roles ask for 10 or more. Remote work is limited, just 10% of roles, and the median listing stays open 23 days, so timing your application matters.

Among the skills employers name, AI and machine learning leads at 13%, followed by CRM at 11%, Google Analytics at 10%, and LinkedIn Ads and TikTok both at 9%. On the industry side, SaaS is named most often at 9%, ahead of e-commerce at 7%. For sponsorship, only 2% of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on Canada's LMIA approvals list.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Apply beyond the big names

The top 8 hirers, including Dentsu Aegis, WPP Media and Directive, hold only 10% of open roles. With 592 companies hiring, spreading your applications widely is likely to pay off more than targeting a few large employers.

  • Ask about pay early

Only 42% of postings show pay. Where they do, mid-level roles typically run C$75k to C$95k, senior and lead C$86k to C$119k, and director C$121k to C$155k, useful numbers to anchor your own ask.

  • Don't count on remote

Just 10% of open roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, check each listing closely rather than assuming it is an option.

Momentum

New Marketing roles each week

Last 30 days: 577 new roles, against 440 the 30 days before (+31%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Pay is the median of the yearly ranges employers post; level is read from the job title. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
