This week's read

There are 706 open IT and infrastructure roles across Canada this week, spread across 363 companies. New postings in the last 30 days hit 219, up 10% from the 199 posted in the prior 30 days. Weekly postings have been climbing most weeks since early September, reaching 63 new roles in the week of 26 October, their highest point on the chart so far.

If you are hoping to work from home, this is a tough market for that. Only 6% of open roles are listed as remote, so most employers want you on site or in a hybrid setup. Roles also move fairly fast: the median listing stays open 22 days before it is filled or pulled.

Experience bars are high. Employers ask for a median of 5 years minimum, and 15% of postings want 10 years or more. Almost three quarters of listings state a years requirement at all, so vague job ads are the exception here, not the rule.

On pay, 37% of roles post a salary, with a typical range of C$95,000 to C$130,000 across all levels. Senior and lead roles typically run C$105,000 to C$137,000 across 109 postings, while mid-level roles run C$85,000 to C$120,000 across 138 postings. Python leads the skills list at 33%, followed by Azure at 28% and Linux and Terraform tied at 26%, with AWS and Kubernetes both at 23%.

Emplois sur GROUPE TEHORA leads hiring with 61 open roles, and the related TEHORA listing adds 15 more. Capgemini (17 roles) and Scotiabank (12 roles) both appear on Canada's LMIA approvals list, which is worth knowing if sponsorship matters to your search. Together, the top 8 employers hold 22% of all open roles, so the rest of the market is spread across many smaller employers.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect office or hybrid, not remote

Only 6% of open roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, budget time to sort through postings by hand rather than filtering for remote work.

  • Have your years of experience ready

73% of postings state a minimum years requirement, with a median ask of 5 years. Sharpen how you describe your experience level before applying.

  • Check sponsor status early

Capgemini and Scotiabank appear on Canada's LMIA approvals list. If you need visa sponsorship, confirm an employer's status before investing time in an application.

New IT / Infra roles each week

Last 30 days: 219 new roles, against 199 the 30 days before (+10%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Pay is the median of the yearly ranges employers post; level is read from the job title. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
