Companies read for 60 days or moreThis week's read
This market has slowed from where it was a few weeks ago. New postings fell to 206 in the last 30 days from 222 the period before, a 7% drop. The weekly count peaked at 59 new roles in the week of 19 October and has since dropped to 46, a 22% pull back from that high point.
If you are hunting, expect to wait. The median role stays open 24 days before it is filled or pulled. That is a sign employers are taking their time, not rushing to close positions.
Experience bars are set fairly high. Among roles that state a minimum, the median ask is 5 years, and 11% want 10 or more. Only 24% of postings state a years figure at all, and just 2% are aimed at junior candidates, so this is not an easy market to break into from scratch.
If you need visa sponsorship, 46% of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register. Sopra Steria, Vodafone and LSEG are on that register and each has postings open now, alongside bigger listers like Capgemini and DXC Technology who carry the largest role counts but are not flagged as sponsors here.
On skills, cloud and automation lead the list: Python appears in 32% of postings, Terraform in 29%, AWS in 28% and Azure in 27%. ITIL shows up in 17% of roles, more than any other way of working, while remote options are scarce at 5% of postings and only 13% of roles state pay.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Expect a longer wait
Roles stay open a median of 24 days. Apply but do not expect a quick answer, and keep other applications moving at the same time.
- Check sponsor status early
46% of open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings. Sopra Steria, Vodafone and LSEG are on the UK Home Office sponsor register if that matters to you.
- Lead with cloud and automation skills
Python, Terraform, AWS and Azure are each named in over a quarter of postings. ITIL is asked for in 17%, more than any other method or tool.
Momentum
New IT / Infra roles each week
Last 30 days: 206 new roles, against 222 the 30 days before (-7%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
