Canada finance hiring jumped 58% in a month, but the weekly pace has already cooled from its peak

New postings are up sharply over 30 days, yet the weekly flow has eased since its mid-October high. Roles still move fast once they open.

This week's read

Finance and accounting jobs in Canada are open across 791 companies, with 2,071 roles open right now. New postings rose 58% in the last 30 days, from 529 to 834. But the weekly pace has already turned: after peaking at 269 new roles the week of 19 October, it fell to 228 the following week, a 15% pull back from that high.

Roles stay open a median of 19 days, so hiring moves fast once a company opens a seat. Three in four postings (74%) state a minimum years of experience, and the median ask is 4 years. Only 8% of roles want 10 or more years, and just 3% are remote, so most jobs are in person or hybrid.

Pay is posted on 46% of roles, 941 postings in all, and it changes a lot by level. Mid level roles typically pay C$75k to C$101k, senior or lead roles C$85k to C$110k, and director roles C$137k to C$181k. The overall typical range across all levels is C$82k to C$109k.

PWC and BDO lead the hiring list with 58 and 57 open roles each, followed by TD, RBC, BMO, Alstom, CIBC and Rsm. Together these eight companies hold just 15% of all open roles, so hiring is spread thin rather than concentrated in a few names. BMO stands out for growth, with new postings up 103%, from 33 to 67, in the last 30 days. Visa sponsorship is rare right now: only 1% of open roles sit at employers with recent LMIA filings.

Power BI and SAP each appear in 10% of postings, ERP in 9%, and AI and machine learning in 7%. CPA is named in 38% of postings and CFA in 11%. By seniority, 59% of postings are mid level and 21% senior, with smaller shares at junior (9%) and principal (9%).

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Move quickly on openings

Roles stay open a median of just 19 days. With new postings up 58% over the last month, apply as soon as you see a fit rather than waiting.

  • Aim for the 4-year mark

The median ask is 4 years of experience, and 74% of roles state a minimum. Only 8% want 10 or more years, so most openings suit early to mid-career applicants.

  • Plan for on-site work

Just 3% of open roles are remote. If you need flexibility, check each listing closely rather than assuming hybrid or remote is common in this market.

Momentum

New Finance roles each week

Last 30 days: 834 new roles, against 529 the 30 days before (+58%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Pay is the median of the yearly ranges employers post; level is read from the job title. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
