Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

Marketing hiring across the rest of Asia-Pacific is cooling off. There are 1,696 open roles from 563 companies right now, but new postings fell 4% in the last 30 days compared to the 30 days before. The weekly pace has eased even more sharply: after peaking at 135 new roles the week of 12 October, it dropped to 91 by 26 October, a 33% drop from that high.

A typical marketing job here stays open for 31 days before it gets filled. Four years is the usual minimum experience asked for, and only 7% of postings want 10 or more years, so this looks like a market for people with some years behind them rather than deep veterans.

The eight biggest employers, Dentsu Aegis, Intrepid Asia, Tencent, Marriott International, WPP Media, AstraZeneca, adidas and Agoda, hold just 12% of all open roles between them, so hiring is spread across many smaller companies too. WPP Media stands out for a different reason: its new postings fell 46% over the past month, the sharpest drop among the employers tracked.

If you scan postings, TikTok comes up most often, named in 13% of the roles read, with Meta Ads and AI and machine learning close behind. E-commerce is the industry mentioned most, in 15% of postings, ahead of consumer packaged goods and advertising.

Working from home is rare in this market: just 11% of open roles are remote. Most roles are aimed at people already in the field, not entry-level or top leadership.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Plan for office or hybrid work

Only 11% of open marketing roles here are remote. If you need flexibility, check each listing closely rather than assuming it is on offer.

  • TikTok comes up most

TikTok is named in 13% of postings read, with Meta Ads and AI and machine learning close behind. Worth having examples ready if you work with these.

  • WPP Media has slowed down

Its new postings fell 46% in the past month, the steepest drop of any major employer here. Expect fewer fresh openings there for now, even though it still holds 23 open roles.

Momentum

New Marketing roles each week

Last 30 days: 459 new roles, against 477 the 30 days before (-4%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
