Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

There are 1,328 open software engineer roles across 463 companies in the rest of Asia-Pacific right now. New postings rose 4% over the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before. A role stays open for a median of 38 days, so there is time to apply once you see something you want.

Week by week, hiring has been fairly flat. The busiest week was 12 October with 112 new roles, and the most recent week, 26 October, had 110. That is a small dip from the peak, not a new surge, so the pace this week looks like a continuation rather than a jump.

NVIDIA has the most open roles, with 58, followed by Deloitte SEA at 33, PWC at 30 and Cadence at 29. Even so, the eight biggest employers together hold only 18% of all open roles, so most of the hiring in this market sits outside the largest names.

Experience requirements are moderate overall. The median minimum asked for is 5 years, and only 8% of postings want 10 or more. Python is the most named skill, showing up in 35% of postings. Remote work is rare here, making up just 6% of open roles, so most jobs expect you on site.

On seniority, mid-level titles make up the largest share of postings at 47%, with senior titles at 26%. Junior, lead and principal titles fill out the rest. If you are early career, junior openings are a smaller slice of the market, so it is worth widening your search to mid-level titles that may still fit your experience.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Apply within the 38-day window

Roles stay open a median of 38 days. Move quickly once you spot a posting that fits, rather than waiting to see if more similar roles appear.

  • You don't need 10 years

Only 8% of postings ask for 10 or more years of experience. The median minimum is 5 years, so mid-level engineers are well placed to apply.

  • Don't expect remote by default

Just 6% of open roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, check each listing closely rather than assuming it is an option.

Momentum

New Engineering roles each week

Last 30 days: 393 new roles, against 379 the 30 days before (+4%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
