India software engineer postings fall 14% in 30 days, but the bar stays senior

There are 6,657 open software engineer roles in India right now, spread across 1,307 companies. New postings fell 14% over the last 30 days, from 2,696 to 2,321. But the weekly count tells a different story: after a dip to 496 new roles in the week of 19 October, postings jumped back to 752 the following week, close to the 790 posted back in early September.
If you are early in your career, read this part twice. The median listing asks for at least 5 years of experience, and 14% of roles want 10 years or more. Only 3% of open roles are labelled junior. Mid-level titles make up 43% of the market, with senior, principal and lead roles together making up more than half.
No single company controls this market. Infosys leads with 327 open roles, but the top 8 employers combined hold only 18% of all open roles, so there is room well beyond the big names. PWC still has 170 open roles, though its new postings fell 40% in the last 30 days. Accenture, Cisco and Caterpillar moved the other way: new postings there rose 41%, 15% and 17%.
On skills, REST APIs show up in 35% of postings, followed by Python at 30%, Java at 29% and AWS at 27%. Agile is named in a third of postings. Remote roles are rare, just 3% of openings, and only 1% of postings list pay, so there is not enough data to say what the market pays. The median listing stays open just 14 days, so moving fast on applications matters.
