This week's read

The weekly pace of new customer support postings has eased. The busiest week was 21 September, with 73 new roles. By 26 October that had fallen to 52, a drop of 29% from the peak. Across the UK there are 627 open roles right now, with the typical one staying open for 22 days.

Zoom out to 30 days and the picture is similar: 234 new roles appeared in the latest window, down from 251 in the one before, a fall of 7%. The slowdown is not tied to one company pulling back. It shows up across the market.

This is also a market with no single big employer to chase. The top 8 companies, including Emplyfy, SS&C Technologies and Nationwide, together account for only 8% of all open roles. With 469 companies hiring, your odds improve by casting a wide net rather than fixating on a handful of names.

If you need visa sponsorship, 40% of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register. Nationwide, Teleperformance, Amazon and Barclays all appear on that register, each with a handful of open roles.

On experience, this market leans toward the middle rather than the top. Where years are stated, a minimum of 3 is typical, and only 4% of postings ask for 10 or more years. But only 29% of postings state a years requirement at all, and just 21% post pay, so there is not enough data to say what this market pays. Remote work is scarce too, at just 8% of roles.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Apply even with moderate experience

Where years are named, 3 is the typical minimum and only 4% of postings ask for 10 or more. Many roles do not state a requirement at all, so do not rule yourself out too early.

  • Plan for on-site or hybrid work

Only 8% of open roles are remote. If you are hoping to work from home, treat that as the exception here, not the rule, when you search.

  • Target sponsor register employers if needed

40% of open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings. Nationwide, Teleperformance, Amazon and Barclays are all on the UK Home Office sponsor register and worth a look.

Momentum

New Customer Support roles each week

Last 30 days: 234 new roles, against 251 the 30 days before (-7%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
