Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

Postings for Security Engineer roles across the rest of Asia-Pacific are up 18% over the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before. That is a real pickup. Weekly postings did slow a little after their high point in mid-October, but they are still close to that level, so the market has not cooled off.

Look closer and the growth is not spread evenly. The top 8 employers hiring for this role account for 34% of all open positions. PwC leads with 37 open roles and Deloitte SEA is close behind with 36. The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Metrobank, Coupang and Prudential round out the rest of the top names, each with smaller but steady counts.

This is not an entry-level market. The median posting asks for 5 years of minimum experience, and 13% of roles want 10 or more years. Most postings spell this out directly, so you can usually tell where you stand before you apply.

Working from home is rare here. Only 3% of open roles are remote, so plan on being near an office. Roles also take a while to fill, with a median of 28 days open, which gives you some room if you want to prepare before applying.

On paper, CISSP is the certification employers mention most, named in 36% of postings. SIEM and Python are the two most asked-for technical skills, followed by AWS and Azure. None of these guarantee an interview, but they show up often enough to be worth knowing if you are deciding where to focus.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Start with PwC and Deloitte SEA

These two firms post the most Security Engineer roles by far, 37 and 36 open positions. If you want the highest volume of chances, apply directly on their career pages first.

  • Be ready to show 5+ years

The median posting asks for 5 years minimum experience, and 13% want 10 or more. Have your years of relevant work clearly laid out before you apply.

  • Plan for on-site work

Only 3% of open roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, check the office location before applying rather than assuming remote is an option.

Momentum

New Security roles each week

Last 30 days: 106 new roles, against 90 the 30 days before (+18%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
