This week's read

If you are hunting for a security engineer role in the UK, there is more to apply to than a month ago. New postings rose 18% in the last 30 days, from 184 to 217. Across the market there are 548 open roles right now, spread across 296 different employers, so no single company dominates the list.

Hiring moves at a steady pace, not a fast one. The typical role stays open 29 days before it is filled or pulled. Among the biggest named employers, Amazon has the most open roles, followed by LSEG, Capgemini and JPMorganChase, but together the top 8 employers hold only 18% of all open roles, so most of the hiring is happening outside the big names.

Visa sponsorship is worth checking before you apply. 56% of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register, including Amazon, LSEG, Capgemini, CrowdStrike, Leonardo Company and Accenture. If sponsorship matters to you, that is a useful first filter.

On experience, the median posting asks for 5 years, and only 8% ask for 10 years or more, though just 30% of postings state a years figure at all. By title, mid level makes up 49% of roles, with senior at 19% and principal at 18%, so there is real room above entry level. Remote work is scarce: only 7% of roles are listed as remote, so most hiring expects you on site or hybrid.

Python and AWS lead the skills employers name, appearing in 25% and 23% of postings. CISSP is the most requested certification, named in 27% of postings, well ahead of CISM at 16%. Only 11% of postings list pay, so there is not enough data yet to say what this market typically pays.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • More roles opened this month

New postings rose from 184 to 217 in 30 days, an 18% increase. It is a good time to be applying, with 548 roles open in total.

  • Check the sponsor register

56% of open roles sit at employers with recent UK Home Office sponsor filings, including Amazon, LSEG and Accenture. If you need sponsorship, start there.

  • Do not expect remote by default

Only 7% of roles are listed as remote. Plan for on site or hybrid work when you search, and look past the big names since the top 8 employers hold just 18% of roles.

Momentum

New Security roles each week

Last 30 days: 217 new roles, against 184 the 30 days before (+18%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
