Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

Remote finance and accounting hiring has slowed from where it was a few weeks ago. New postings peaked the week of 21 September at 33, and by the week of 26 October that was down to 26, a 21% drop from the peak. Over the last 30 days, 91 new roles went up, down from 118 in the 30 days before that, a 23% fall.

Right now there are 221 open remote roles across 132 companies. The typical role stays open for 30 days before it is filled or pulled, so if you see something you like, there is no need to panic, but also no reason to wait too long to apply.

Employers are asking for a median of 4 years of experience, and 66% of open roles state a years requirement at all. Only 10% of postings ask for 10 or more years, so this is not a market dominated by senior searches.

No single company controls this market. WVU Medicine has the most open roles at 8, followed by Jobs At EasyOutsource at 7, Outsource Access at 6, and Rsm at 5, but together the top 8 employers hold just 21% of all open roles. That means your search will likely span many smaller employers rather than a handful of big ones.

On skills, QuickBooks shows up in 8% of postings and SQL in 7%, with SAP and NetSuite each at 6%. CPA is named in 18% of postings, by far the most requested credential. Healthcare is the most common industry context, named in 11% of postings, followed by revenue cycle management at 8%.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Weekly postings are easing

New roles per week fell from a peak of 33 in late September to 26 by late October. Expect fewer fresh listings each week than you saw a month ago.

  • This is a mid-level market

61% of titles are mid-level and only 10% of postings ask for 10 or more years of experience. Most openings are not senior-track.

  • Spread your applications wide

The top 8 employers hold only 21% of open roles, so no single company dominates. Apply across many of the 132 companies hiring rather than focusing on a few.

Momentum

New Finance roles each week

Last 30 days: 91 new roles, against 118 the 30 days before (-23%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
