This week's read

If you have been watching this market for a while, you will have noticed things slowing down. New postings fell 51% over the last 30 days, from 98 to 48. The weekly pace tells the same story: the week of 14 September brought 32 new roles, the most of any week since, and the week of 26 October brought just 14, down 56% from that peak.

There are still 133 open roles across 95 companies, so the market has not dried up. But it is spread thin: the top 8 employers together hold only 23% of those roles. Taxwell has the most open roles at 7, followed by 20Four7Va with 6. A handful of others, including GoShare, Myhrabc, and Rightway Healthcare, each have 3.

The bar for getting in stays low. The median minimum experience asked for is 2 years, and only 1% of postings want 10 or more years. Nearly 9 in 10 roles are listed at mid level, with just 6% junior and 3% senior. This is a market built around steady, mid-level support work, not a ladder for specialists.

Among postings that named tools, Zendesk came up most, in 17%, with CRM close behind at 16% and Microsoft Windows at 10%. Healthcare was the most-named industry at 11%, ahead of SaaS at 9%. Certifications barely feature: CPA was the only one named with any regularity, in 4% of postings. Every open role in this market is remote, and the median listing stays open 26 days before it closes.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Move fast, the pool is shrinking

New postings dropped 51% over the last 30 days and the weekly pace is down 56% from its September peak. Fewer new roles are appearing each week, so do not wait around once you see one you want.

  • Experience bar is low

The median minimum experience asked for is 2 years, and only 1% of roles want 10 or more years. Nearly 9 in 10 postings are mid level, so this is not a market that favors long tenure.

  • Zendesk and CRM come up often

Among postings naming tools, Zendesk appears in 17% and CRM in 16%. If you have hands-on time with either, it is worth making visible on your resume.

New Customer Support roles each week

Last 30 days: 48 new roles, against 98 the 30 days before (-51%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
