Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
Legal and compliance hiring in India picked up speed this month. New postings went from 93 in the prior 30 days to 156 in the latest 30 days, a 68% rise. Across the market there are now 508 open roles spread across 224 companies.
Week by week, the climb has been steady rather than a one-off spike. New postings went from 17 roles the week of 7 September to 48 roles the week of 26 October, the highest week yet. The latest week held at that same level, so the pace is not slowing down.
Most roles ask for experience, and quite a bit of it. 71% of open roles state a required number of years, and the median minimum is 5 years. 18% want 10 or more years, so there is a real lane for senior candidates, though mid-level titles still make up 61% of postings, with senior titles at 19%.
Kotak Mahindra Bank is the biggest single hirer by far, with 50 open roles, well ahead of Accenture at 18 and Adani at 17. Even so, the top 8 employers only hold 26% of all open roles, so most of the hiring is spread across the other 224 companies. The subject matter leans financial: financial services, banking, AML and KYC are the most asked-about industries, and certifications like CAMS and CIPP each show up in 3% of postings.
Two things to know before you apply. None of the open roles are remote, so this is an office-based market right now. And pay is almost never posted, just 1% of roles state it, so you will need to ask directly rather than rely on the listing.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Expect to work from an office
0% of open roles are remote. If you need flexibility, raise it in the interview rather than expecting to find it in the posting.
- Senior candidates have an opening
18% of roles ask for 10 or more years of experience, even though most postings target mid-level candidates. If you have a decade or more in the field, look closely at these.
- Know banking and AML terms
Financial services, banking, AML and KYC are the most asked-about areas. Familiarity with these will help your application stand out, even without a certification.
Momentum
New Legal roles each week
Last 30 days: 156 new roles, against 93 the 30 days before (+68%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
