Legal & Compliance hiring in Europe is up 37%, but the pace has eased since its peak week
A hiring push in October pulled new postings up sharply, but the weekly pace has fallen by half from its best week on record.

Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
There are 2,079 open Legal & Compliance roles across Europe right now, spread over 839 companies. New postings in the last 30 days reached 499, up 37% from the 365 posted in the prior 30 days. That is a real jump, so if you have been waiting for more roles to appear, this is the month it happened.
But look at the week by week picture and the story is more mixed. The week of 19 October was the peak, with 224 new roles posted, well above any other week since early September. The week after, 26 October, new postings fell to 113, a drop of 50% from that peak. So the 30-day total is still up, but the weekly pace has cooled since that spike.
Roles are staying open a median of 30 days, and most postings do not ask for heavy seniority. Mid-level titles make up 70% of listings, with only 13% senior and 12% junior. Just 8% of postings ask for 10 or more years of experience, and where years are stated at all, which is only 42% of postings, the median minimum is 4 years. That points to a market mostly built around mid-career hires rather than top-end specialists.
The biggest employers are Linklaters with 91 open roles and Hogan Lovells with 89, followed by PWC, Freshfields, NRF, DLA Piper UK, Hengeler and Latham & Watkins. Together these eight firms account for 23% of all open roles, so there is room beyond the big names if you are not getting traction there. Remote options are thin, at just 4% of roles, and only 5% of postings state pay, too few to say what the market is actually paying.
On skills, AI and machine learning is mentioned in 7% of postings, more than any other tool or technology named. Compliance-specific knowledge matters more: AML appears in 8% of postings, KYC in 7%, financial services in 6%, banking in 5% and fintech in 4%. Named certifications like CAMS, CIPP and ICA each turn up in just 1% of postings, so they are mentioned but far from standard asks.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Expect a mid-level market
70% of open roles are pitched at mid-level, with only 13% senior and 8% asking for 10 or more years. If you have a few years of experience, you are in the biggest pool of demand here.
- Look past the big law firms
Linklaters and Hogan Lovells lead with 91 and 89 open roles, but the top 8 employers combined hold only 23% of all roles. Most openings sit elsewhere among 839 companies hiring.
- Mention AML or KYC experience
AML appears in 8% of postings and KYC in 7%, more common asks than any named software or certification. If you have that background, it is worth featuring clearly.
Momentum
New Legal roles each week
Last 30 days: 499 new roles, against 365 the 30 days before (+37%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
