Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

There are 128 open Engineering Manager roles across 94 companies in the rest of Asia-Pacific right now, and the typical listing has been open 36 days. New postings fell 24% in the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before that. The weekly chart backs this up: the busiest week was mid-September with 17 new roles, and the most recent week came in at 15, a pace that has eased 12% from that peak.

This is a senior market. The typical posting asks for at least 8 years of experience, and 37% of roles want 10 years or more. If you are earlier in your career, expect most of what you see here to be aimed above you.

Remote work is rare: only 3% of open roles are remote. If you want this kind of flexibility, you will be searching against the grain in this market.

Hiring is spread out rather than concentrated. DBS tops the list of employers with open roles, followed by HSBC and Cadence, with Agoda close behind. Even so, the top 8 employers together hold only 26% of all open roles, so most of the opportunity sits outside the biggest names.

On the skills side, AI and machine learning shows up in 27% of postings, more than any other technology named. Python, Java and AWS also appear often, and Agile is named almost as frequently as AI and machine learning. None of this is a requirement to add a line to your resume blindly, but it tells you what hiring managers are currently asking about most.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect a senior bar

Most postings ask for 8 years of experience or more, and over a third want 10 plus years. Tailor your application to show depth, not just breadth.

  • Look past the big names

The top 8 employers hold only 26% of open roles. Spend time searching beyond DBS, HSBC and Cadence since most roles sit with smaller or less visible hiring companies.

  • Don't count on remote

Only 3% of roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, plan for an on-site or hybrid search in this market.

New Engineering Management roles each week

Last 30 days: 37 new roles, against 49 the 30 days before (-24%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
