This week's read

Hiring for Engineering Manager roles in India picked up pace. In the last 30 days, 303 new roles were posted, up from 246 in the previous 30 days, a 23% rise. Weekly postings also climbed through October, reaching 94 new roles in the week of 26 October, the highest of the past eight weeks.

This is a senior hiring market. The median minimum experience asked is 10 years, and 60% of open roles want at least that much. Only 1% of roles are tagged junior, while 20% are labelled principal and 19% senior, so most of the competition is coming from people well into their careers.

If you want to work from home, this market will be hard going: just 2% of open roles are remote. Pay information is just as thin. Only 1% of postings state a salary, so there is not enough data here to say what the market pays.

Amazon has the most open roles at 36, ahead of Barclays with 19 and Kotak Mahindra Bank with 14. But the top 8 employers together hold only 18% of all open roles, so hiring is spread across many companies rather than concentrated in a few. In total, 328 companies are hiring for this role right now.

On skills, AI and machine learning is named in 35% of postings, followed by AWS at 32% and Java at 26%. Agile is asked for in 38% of roles, more than any other way of working listed. Certifications barely come up: PMP, Certified ScrumMaster and CCIE each appear in just 1% of postings.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect to be asked for 10+ years

60% of open roles set a minimum of 10 or more years of experience. If you have fewer years, expect a smaller pool of roles to target, since only 1% of postings are tagged junior.

  • Don't count on remote work

Only 2% of open Engineering Manager roles in India are remote. Plan on being in an office or on-site for the large majority of these roles.

  • Look beyond the biggest names

Amazon, Barclays and Kotak Mahindra Bank post the most roles, but the top 8 employers hold just 18% of all openings. With 328 companies hiring, it pays to look past the familiar names.

Momentum

New Engineering Management roles each week

Last 30 days: 303 new roles, against 246 the 30 days before (+23%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
