Engineering Manager postings in Europe jump 31%, with hiring spread across 423 companies

New postings hit their highest week yet, but this is a market for experienced managers, not entry points: remote and pay transparency are both rare.

Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

There are 593 open Engineering Manager roles across Europe right now, posted by 423 different companies. New postings are climbing: 243 went up in the last 30 days, against 185 in the 30 days before that, a 31% rise. The week of 26 October brought 78 new roles, the busiest week on record so far, and hiring has not eased off it.

This is not a market run by a handful of big names. Alstom leads with 14 open roles, followed by SAAB Group with 11, then Adyen and Capgemini with 9 each. Even so, the top 8 employers together hold only 11% of all open roles, so most of your options sit with smaller or mid-size hiring teams, not a few giants.

The bar for experience is high. The median posting asks for at least 6.5 years, and 19% want 10 years or more. Titles back this up: 20% are labelled principal and 17% lead, against 54% mid and none at all marked junior. Roles also take time to fill, sitting open a median of 36 days.

Working from home is uncommon here: only 12% of roles are remote, so most hiring expects you in an office or on a hybrid schedule. Pay is rarely stated too, just 6% of postings include it, too few to say what the market typically pays. On skills, AI and machine learning is the most asked-for area at 25%, followed by AWS at 19%, Kubernetes at 16% and Python at 15%. Agile is the most named way of working, appearing in 18% of postings, while certifications are barely mentioned at all.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Hiring is still picking up

New postings rose 31% over the last 30 days, and the most recent week was the busiest yet. This is a good time to be applying rather than waiting.

  • Expect a high experience bar

The median posting asks for at least 6.5 years, and 19% want 10 or more. No roles are tagged junior, so this market is built for managers with a track record.

  • Don't expect remote by default

Only 12% of open roles are remote, so plan for office or hybrid work. Pay is also rarely posted, just 6% of listings state it, so expect to discuss salary directly.

Momentum

New Engineering Management roles each week

Last 30 days: 243 new roles, against 185 the 30 days before (+31%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
