Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
There were 51 new Finance & Accounting postings in Japan in the last 30 days, down from 59 in the prior 30 days, a drop of 14%. But the week-by-week picture is uneven: after a quiet week of just 3 new roles in mid-October, postings jumped back up to 21 in the week of 26 October, the strongest week in the last two months.
Right now there are 259 open roles across 136 companies. Rakuten leads with 32 open roles, followed by MS with 16, Amazon with 9 and JPMorganChase with 7. Even so, the top 8 employers together hold only 33% of all open roles, so most of the market sits with smaller or mid-sized hirers, not a handful of big names.
Employers are asking for experience. The median minimum is 5 years, and 15% of postings want 10 years or more. Only 54% of postings state a years requirement at all, so for the rest you will need to judge fit yourself. By title, 58% of postings are mid-level, with junior, senior and principal titles each making up a smaller slice.
None of the open roles are listed as remote. If you are applying in this market, plan on working on-site. The typical role stays open for 34 days before it is filled or pulled.
On skills, SAP is the most asked-for tool, named in 16% of postings, ahead of AI and machine learning at 8% and Power BI at 7%. On certifications, CPA is named in 21% of postings and CFA in 8%. Asset management is the most mentioned industry background, named in 8% of postings.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- CPA is widely requested
CPA is named in 21% of postings, well ahead of CFA at 8%. If you hold it, make sure it is easy to spot on your resume.
- Plan for on-site work
None of the open roles in this market are listed as remote. Factor commuting and relocation into your job search from the start.
- Aim at mid-level roles
58% of open postings are mid-level, and the median minimum experience asked is 5 years. This is where most of the openings sit.
Momentum
New Finance roles each week
Last 30 days: 51 new roles, against 59 the 30 days before (-14%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
