Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
Hiring for Solutions Engineers in Japan picked up pace this past month. There were 80 new postings in the last 30 days, up 23% from the month before. Weekly postings kept climbing through October, reaching 28 new roles in the week of 26 October, the strongest week tracked so far.
Right now there are 274 open roles spread across 149 companies, so this is not a market dominated by one or two names. The top 8 employers, including Palo Alto Networks, Salesforce, Databricks and Rakuten, together make up about a quarter of all open roles. The typical role stays open for 55 days before it is filled or pulled.
This is a market for people with some years behind them. The median posting asks for at least 5 years of experience, and about 1 in 10 postings want 10 years or more. Looking at job titles, 61% are mid-level, while junior and lead titles are hard to find.
Only 4% of roles are remote, so expect to work from Japan in person for most of these jobs. On the skills side, Python and AI and machine learning each show up in about a fifth of postings, and cloud platform knowledge matters too, with Azure, AWS and Google Cloud all named in a meaningful share of listings. Formal certifications are asked for far less often.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Apply while hiring is active
New postings rose 23% in the last 30 days, and the pace kept building through late October, the busiest week tracked so far. This looks like a good window to apply.
- Bring years of experience
The median posting wants at least 5 years of experience, and about 1 in 10 ask for 10 years or more. Few roles are aimed at junior candidates, so highlight relevant years on your resume.
- Show multi-cloud knowledge
Azure, AWS and Google Cloud are all named in a meaningful share of postings, alongside Python and AI and machine learning skills. Familiarity across platforms may help your application stand out.
