Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

If you're hunting for a remote product manager role, this week's numbers show a market that has slowed down. New postings dropped 46% over the last 30 days, from 80 down to 43. The weekly pace tells the same story: the week of 14 September saw 30 new roles, the most of any week tracked, and the most recent week (26 October) saw just 11, a drop of 63% from that peak.

That doesn't mean the market is empty. There are still 120 open remote PM roles spread across 84 different companies. But roles are sitting open for a while, a median of 41 days, so there's no need to rush a decision if you land an interview.

Hiring isn't concentrated in a few big names. Alpaca leads with 8 open roles, but the next tier, including 1KOMMA5, Care Source and Supabase, each have just 4. Even taken together, the top 8 employers hold only 27% of all open roles, so most of the opportunity is spread across smaller, less visible companies.

On experience, this is not an entry-level market: only 1% of roles are labeled junior, while 56% are mid-level, 24% senior and 17% principal. The median minimum experience asked is 5 years, and 15% of postings want 10 or more. Of the roles that state a year requirement (65% of them), most are looking for people with some track record already.

When it comes to what employers want to see, AI and machine learning stands out, named in 32% of postings, well ahead of SQL at 12%. Agile is named in 26% of postings and Scrum in 12%. SaaS, healthcare and fintech are the industries that come up most, at 21%, 18% and 13% respectively. Certifications barely register, each named in only about 1% of postings.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect a slower market right now

New postings are down 46% over the last 30 days, and the weekly pace has eased 63% from its September peak. Give your search more time and don't read a quiet week as a sign nothing is happening.

  • Aim for mid to senior level

Only 1% of roles are junior. Mid-level makes up 56%, senior 24%, principal 17%. If you have under 5 years of experience, you'll be competing for a small slice of this market.

  • AI and machine learning comes up most

It's named in 32% of postings, more than twice the rate of any other skill listed. SQL follows at 12%. Worth knowing what employers are actually asking for before you apply.

Momentum

New Product roles each week

Last 30 days: 43 new roles, against 80 the 30 days before (-46%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.

120 roles is too many to read.
Ashney reads them for you.

It scores every Product Manager role in remote roles against your résumé and surfaces only the ones worth your time, with the one honest gap on each. The median Product role in remote roles stays open for 41 days, so being early matters.
