This week's read

There are 112 open Technical Program Manager roles in the UK right now, spread across 74 companies. New postings grew 2% over the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before, so this market is not slowing down. The weekly count has climbed steadily since early September and the most recent week, 26 October, matched the highest week so far at 17 new roles.

A typical role stays open for 28 days before it is filled or pulled. Experience demands are high: the median posting asks for 6.5 years, 2 in 5 roles state a year requirement at all, and 1 in 3 ask for 10 years or more. If you are early career, this is a market where junior titles make up just 4% of postings, while mid-level titles take 42% and senior through principal levels together make up more than a third.

JPMorganChase has the most open roles at 10, followed by Amazon at 8 and Wayve at 7. Together, the top 8 employers account for 38% of all open roles, so hiring is not concentrated in just one or two names. Amazon, Apple and Depop appear on the UK Home Office sponsor register, which matters if you need visa support: about half of all open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings.

On skills, AI and machine learning is named in 32% of postings, well ahead of AWS at 8% and Azure at 7%. Agile and Jira remain the most common ways of working, asked for in 29% and 23% of roles. Certifications show up less often: PMP appears in 16% of postings and PRINCE2 in 12%, so neither is asked for in most roles. Remote options are rare, at just 4% of open roles, and only 6% of postings list pay, too few to say what the market typically pays.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect to show years, not just skills

2 in 5 postings state a required number of years, with a median ask of 6.5 and 1 in 3 wanting 10 or more. Be ready to speak directly to your years of experience, not just your toolset.

  • Check the sponsor register if you need a visa

About half of open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings. Amazon, Apple and Depop are on the UK Home Office sponsor register, worth checking if visa support matters to you.

  • AI and machine learning stands out among skills

AI and machine learning is named in 32% of postings, far more than any other technology listed. Agile and Jira are the most common ways of working, named in 29% and 23% of roles.

Momentum

New TPM roles each week

Last 30 days: 55 new roles, against 54 the 30 days before (+2%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
