TPM hiring in the US cools from its October peak, and the bar stays high
New postings are down 5% over the last 30 days, and the weekly pace has eased 23% from its peak week in early October. This market also wants experience: a median of 7 years, and almost a third of roles ask for 10 or more.

There are 1,947 open Technical Program Manager roles in the US right now, spread across 735 companies. But the flow of new postings has slowed. In the last 30 days, 1,112 new roles went up, down from 1,168 in the 30 days before, a 5% drop. Week by week, postings peaked at 331 in the week of 5 October and have since eased to 255 by the week of 26 October, a 23% fall from that peak.
This is not a market for early-career candidates. Only 1% of postings are tagged junior, while mid level makes up 47%, senior 26%, and principal 20%. The median minimum experience asked is 7 years, and 29% of roles want 10 years or more. If you are earlier in your career, this market will be a harder fit right now.
Amazon has the most open roles, 224, though its new postings dipped 4%. Apple, with 83 open roles, saw new postings fall 18%, and Meta's new postings dropped 61%, even though it still has 40 roles open. RTX fell 24%. Microsoft moved the other way, with new postings up 22%, even though it has fewer open roles, 33, than the others. Together, the top 8 employers hold 28% of all open TPM roles.
Pay is posted on 65% of roles, 1,233 of them, with a typical range of $147k to $210k across all levels. That range splits a lot by seniority: mid level roles typically run $130k to $198k, senior or lead $149k to $201k, principal or staff $162k to $239k, and director roles $190k to $263k. Remote work is rare here, just 7% of open roles.
AI and machine learning is named in 24% of postings, the most common technical ask, ahead of AWS at 7% and SQL at 5%. Agile is named in 26% of postings and Jira in 20%. PMP is named in 26% of postings. On visas, 56% of open roles sit at employers with recent H-1B filings, including Amazon, Apple, NVIDIA, Oracle, Meta, JPMorganChase, Oracle, and Microsoft on that list.
