This week's read

There are 756 open People & HR roles in the UK right now, spread across 518 companies. A typical listing stays open for 20 days. Over the past 30 days, 250 new roles were posted, up 7% from the 233 posted in the prior 30 days.

Look week by week, though, and the pace has cooled. Postings peaked at 77 new roles in the week of 19 October, then fell to 53 in the week of 26 October, a drop of 31% from that peak. So the month looks stronger than the most recent week does.

Half of all open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register. Among the biggest hirers, Amazon, GXO Logistics and Capgemini are on that list. Amazon has the most open roles of any employer, 15, followed by GXO Logistics with 12, Ashdown Group with 10 and Capgemini with 9. Even so, the top 8 employers together hold only 10% of all open roles, so hiring is spread thin across the market rather than concentrated in a few names.

Employers lean toward mid-level hires: 63% of titles are mid-level, 15% senior and 11% principal. Where years of experience are stated, which is only 24% of roles, the median ask is 5 years and 19% want 10 years or more. HRIS is named in 21% of postings and Workday in 14%, while CIPD is named in 20%. Only 6% of roles are remote, and just 18% post pay, too few to say what the market typically pays.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Move quickly on listings

Roles stay open a median of 20 days. With weekly postings down from their October peak, do not wait too long to apply once you see something you want.

  • Check the visa sponsor list

Half of open roles are at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register, including Amazon, GXO Logistics and Capgemini. Worth checking if visa sponsorship matters to you.

  • Spell out your years and systems

Only 24% of roles state a years requirement, but where they do, 5 years is the median ask. HRIS and Workday are the most asked-for systems, and CIPD is named in 20% of postings.

Momentum

New People roles each week

Last 30 days: 250 new roles, against 233 the 30 days before (+7%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
