Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
There are 200 open Project Manager roles in Australia, posted by 124 different companies. Over the last 30 days new postings rose 6% compared with the 30 days before that. But the week-by-week picture tells a different story: the busiest week was 19 October, and by 26 October new postings had dropped 48% from that peak.
A typical PM role stays open for 22 days. Hiring is spread thin: the top 8 employers together hold just 22% of all open roles, so most jobs sit with smaller or less visible companies. Transport for NSW posts the most, with 12 open roles, followed by Department of Communities and Justice with 6.
Remote work is almost nonexistent here, just 2% of open roles. Pay is also rarely shown: only 8% of postings list a salary, too few to say what the market generally pays.
Most postings don't state a required experience level, only 39% do, but where they do, the median ask is 5 years, and 8% want 10 or more. By title, mid-level roles dominate at 67% of postings, senior roles sit at 18%, and lead or principal titles are rare.
Agile is the most named way of working, appearing in 23% of postings, with Jira in 12%. PRINCE2 and PMP certifications are each named in 15% of postings.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Don't wait for a rebound
The week of 19 October was the busiest in two months, but postings fell 48% by 26 October. If you see a role you like, apply now rather than waiting for a stronger week.
- Look past the biggest names
Transport for NSW and Department of Communities and Justice post the most roles, but the top 8 employers hold only 22% of all openings. With 124 companies hiring, widen your search beyond the familiar names.
- Plan for office-based work
Only 2% of open PM roles are remote. If remote work matters to you, expect a hard search in this market and prepare to negotiate on-site or hybrid terms instead.
Momentum
New Project Management roles each week
Last 30 days: 56 new roles, against 53 the 30 days before (+6%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
