UK Project Manager postings up 4% over 30 days, but the weekly pace has eased since October's peak

Hiring is still broad, 378 companies have open roles, but the week of 26 October brought fewer new postings than the peak week before it.

This week's read

There are 615 open Project Manager roles in the UK right now, spread across 378 different companies. That spread matters: the top 8 employers together hold only 13% of all open roles, so this is not a market dominated by a handful of big hirers. The typical role stays open 20 days before it is filled or pulled.

Looking at the last 30 days, new postings are up 4% compared with the 30 days before, 226 versus 217. But the week-by-week picture tells a different story. New roles climbed steadily from early September, peaked at 65 in the week of 19 October, then fell to 45 in the week of 26 October, a drop of 31% from that peak. So the market grew over the month, but it has cooled in its most recent week.

If you need visa sponsorship, more than half the market is open to you: 54% of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register. Among the biggest hirers, Nationwide, SLI HRMS, Capgemini and Inspired Thinking Group (ITG) are all on that register, alongside Nationwide and SLI HRMS each holding 15 open roles, the most of any employer this week.

Most roles target the middle of the career ladder: 58% are mid-level, 21% senior, with smaller shares for lead, principal and junior titles. Where years of experience are stated, which is only 29% of postings, the typical minimum asked is 5 years, and just 9% ask for 10 or more. Agile is the most named way of working, in a quarter of postings, followed by Jira, Scrum, Microsoft Project and Waterfall, each named in 8 to 10%. PRINCE2 appears in a fifth of postings and PMP in 17%. Remote work is scarce, just 6% of roles, and pay is rarely posted, only 11% of listings state it, so there is not enough data here to say what the market typically pays.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Check visa sponsor status first

54% of open roles are at employers with recent filings on the UK Home Office sponsor register, including Nationwide, SLI HRMS, Capgemini and ITG. Worth checking before you apply if sponsorship matters to you.

  • Don't expect remote work

Only 6% of open Project Manager roles are remote. If location flexibility is a priority, narrow your search early rather than assuming it is on offer.

  • Most postings skip years and pay

Only 29% of roles state a minimum years requirement and just 11% post pay. Where years are given, 5 is the typical minimum, so don't rule yourself out from a silent listing.

Momentum

New Project Management roles each week

Last 30 days: 226 new roles, against 217 the 30 days before (+4%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
