This week's read

There are 553 open Project Manager roles in Canada right now, spread across 278 companies. New postings over the last 30 days were almost identical to the 30 days before that, 163 versus 162, so the overall flow of new work has not changed much this month.

But if you look week by week, the picture is less steady. Postings peaked the week of 28 September at 50 new roles, then eased to 36 in the week of 26 October, a drop of 28% from that peak. So the month held flat on balance, but the most recent weeks have been quieter than the busiest one.

This is a market that wants experience. Three in four postings state a years requirement, and the median asks for 5 years minimum. 16% want 10 years or more, so a meaningful slice of roles are aimed squarely at senior hires. Mid-level titles still make up 69% of all postings though, so most of the volume is not at the top.

Pay is only posted on 30% of roles, but where it is, the pattern is clear: the typical range across all levels is C$90k to C$120k, mid-level roles (118 of them) typically run C$86k to C$115k, and senior or lead roles (43 of them) run C$100k to C$135k. Remote work is rare, just 4% of roles, so most of this hiring expects you on site.

Emplois sur GROUPE TEHORA leads with 56 open roles, well ahead of Alstom at 24 and WSP at 14. The top 8 employers together hold 24% of all open roles, so hiring is spread across many companies rather than concentrated in a few. On skills, Agile is named in 26% of postings and PMP in 30%, with Microsoft Project and Jira also common asks.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect to show 5+ years

76% of postings state a years requirement and the median minimum is 5 years. If you have under 5 years of PM experience, target the mid-level postings that make up 69% of this market.

  • Pay listed on 3 in 10 roles

Only 30% of postings show pay. Where they do, mid-level roles typically run C$86k to C$115k and senior roles C$100k to C$135k, useful benchmarks even for roles that do not list a number.

  • Weekly postings have slowed

New postings fell 28% from the peak week (28 Sep, 50 roles) to the latest week (26 Oct, 36 roles). The 30-day total is still flat, so do not read too much into any single slow week.

Momentum

New Project Management roles each week

Last 30 days: 163 new roles, against 162 the 30 days before (+1%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Pay is the median of the yearly ranges employers post; level is read from the job title. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
