This week's read

New Product Designer postings rose 39% over the last 30 days, 79 compared with 57 in the prior 30 days. But the week-by-week count tells a different story: postings peaked at 22 in the week of 5 October and had eased to 17 by the week of 26 October, a drop of 23% from that peak. So the month looks strong, but the most recent weeks are quieter than early October.

Experience requirements sit in the middle of the range. Among roles that state a year requirement (58% of all open roles), the median minimum is 5 years, and 12% of roles ask for 10 or more years. By title, mid-level roles make up 56% of postings, with senior titles at 23%, lead at 7%, junior at 9% and principal at 6%.

Figma is named in 42% of postings read in full, well ahead of any other tool. Adobe Photoshop appears in 27% and Adobe Illustrator in 25%, with Adobe Creative Cloud at 19%. Mentions of AI and machine learning sit at 17%, and Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro trail at 12% and 8%.

Only 14% of open roles are listed as remote, so most hiring expects you in an office or hybrid setup. Riot Games has the most open roles among named employers at 9, followed by adidas and Agoda at 7 each, Tripledot Studios at 6, and Okx at 5. Together the top 8 employers account for 21% of all open roles, so hiring is spread across many companies rather than concentrated in a few.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Don't read the monthly jump alone

Postings are up 39% over 30 days, but the weekly pace has pulled back 23% from its early October peak. Check how fresh a listing is rather than assuming demand is still climbing.

  • Figma is the one tool to know

It appears in 42% of postings, far more than any other design tool. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator follow at 27% and 25%.

  • Expect office or hybrid, not remote

Only 14% of open roles are listed as remote. If location flexibility matters to you, filter early rather than hoping for it later in the process.

Momentum

New Design roles each week

Last 30 days: 79 new roles, against 57 the 30 days before (+39%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
