Mexico software engineer postings cool off after their early October peak

Issue of 2 November 2026This week's read
Right now there are 438 open software engineer roles in Mexico, posted by 190 companies. New postings peaked the week of 5 October, then slowed each week after, and by 26 October the weekly count was down 26% from that peak. The 30-day total also slipped, with 152 new roles added versus 166 in the prior 30 days, an 8% drop.
That slowdown does not mean the door is closing. A role stays open a median of 31 days, which gives you a real window to apply and get noticed rather than a market that fills jobs overnight.
The experience bar is not as high as you might expect. The median posting asks for 5 years of experience, and only 4% of roles want 10 or more years. If you are mid-career, you are squarely in the range most employers are asking for.
Working from home is still the exception here. Only 11% of open roles are listed as remote, so most of this market expects you in an office or on a hybrid schedule.
Capgemini has the most open roles among the named employers, followed by Banorte and Zillow, with PWC, ALTEN Mexico, NTT DATA Services, Orion Innovation and Salesforce rounding out the rest. Together the top 8 employers hold 24% of all open roles, which leaves most of the market spread across smaller hiring companies. On the skills side, Java appears in 33% of postings, the most of any technology, and Agile is named in 27%, so both are worth knowing before you walk into an interview.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Experience bar is moderate
The median ask is 5 years, and only 4% of roles want 10 or more. Mid-career engineers fit most of what is posted right now.
- Remote is the exception
Only 11% of open roles are remote. Plan on applying for office or hybrid positions if you want to see most of the market.
- Java and Agile come up most
Java is named in 33% of postings and Agile in 27%. Both show up often enough to be worth knowing before interviews.
Momentum
New Engineering roles each week
Last 30 days: 152 new roles, against 166 the 30 days before (-8%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
