Remote ops hiring cools fast: new postings down 56% in a month

The weekly pace has eased sharply from its mid-September peak, and job seekers will find fewer new remote operations roles landing each week.

Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

There are 104 open remote operations roles right now from 72 companies, but the flow of new postings has slowed a lot. In the last 30 days, 42 new roles went up, down from 96 in the 30 days before that, a 56% drop. The weekly chart tells the same story: the week of 14 September brought 29 new roles, the most of any week, and by the week of 26 October that had fallen to 8, a 72% drop from that peak.

With 72 companies hiring for just 104 roles, this market is spread thin rather than concentrated in a few big employers. GE Vernova has the most open roles at 8, followed by Jobs at Expert VA with 6 and Care Source with 4. Even so, the top 8 companies together hold only 32% of all open roles, so most of your options sit with smaller or less visible employers.

Roles are staying open a median of 26 days, which gives you some room to prepare an application rather than needing to jump the moment something posts. On experience, the bar is not especially high: the median posting asks for 5 years, and only 6% want 10 or more. That said, 52% of postings do not state a years requirement at all, so read the full listing rather than assuming from the headline.

On skills, AI and machine learning shows up in 20% of postings, the most of any technology asked for, ahead of Salesforce at 12% and Power BI and Tableau at 9% each. Healthcare is the most common industry context, named in 10% of postings, with logistics close behind at 9%. By seniority, 60% of roles are mid-level and 18% are principal-level, so the market leans toward experienced individual contributors rather than entry-level or senior management.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • New postings have slowed sharply

New remote ops roles fell 56% over the last 30 days, and the weekly pace is down 72% from its September peak. Expect fewer new listings each week than you saw a month ago.

  • Hiring is spread across many employers

72 companies are hiring for 104 roles, and the top 8 employers hold only 32% of them. Do not focus only on the biggest names like GE Vernova, most roles sit elsewhere.

  • Experience bar is moderate, but check listings

The median ask is 5 years and only 6% want 10-plus. But 52% of postings do not state a years requirement, so read the full listing instead of assuming from the title.

Momentum

New Operations roles each week

Last 30 days: 42 new roles, against 96 the 30 days before (-56%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.

104 roles is too many to read.
Ashney reads them for you.

It scores every Operations role in remote roles against your résumé and surfaces only the ones worth your time, with the one honest gap on each. The median Operations role in remote roles stays open for 26 days, so being early matters.
