This week's read

There are 764 open Data Analyst roles in the UK right now, spread across 461 different employers. New postings are up 8% over the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before. The weekly pace has eased slightly from its high point in late September, so the growth is real but not accelerating.

No single employer dominates this market. The eight biggest hirers together make up only 12% of all open roles, so if you are only watching the big names, you are missing most of the market. Nationwide and Capgemini currently have the most open roles among the named employers, followed by Gartner, Cummins, SLI HRMS and LSEG.

Visa sponsorship is not rare here. 53% of open roles sit at employers that have recently filed for sponsorship under the UK Home Office sponsor register, including Nationwide, Capgemini, Gartner, Cummins, SLI HRMS and LSEG. That is a useful filter if sponsorship matters to your search.

On skills, SQL is named in 42% of postings and Power BI in 30%, making them the two most common asks by far. Experience requirements are moderate: where years are stated, the typical minimum is 3 years, and only 6% of postings ask for 10 or more. Remote work is scarce, at just 6% of roles, and pay is rarely posted, with only 12% of listings stating a figure, so there is not enough data to say what the market typically pays.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Look past the big names

The top 8 employers only make up 12% of open roles. Most hiring is happening at smaller or less visible companies, so widen your search beyond the usual names.

  • Sponsorship is common here

53% of open roles are at employers with recent visa filings on the Home Office sponsor register, including Nationwide, Capgemini, Gartner, Cummins, SLI HRMS and LSEG.

  • SQL and Power BI lead demand

SQL appears in 42% of postings and Power BI in 30%, well ahead of other tools. These are the most commonly named skills in current listings.

Momentum

New Analytics roles each week

Last 30 days: 269 new roles, against 248 the 30 days before (+8%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. Visa sponsors are employers matched to the government's own sponsor records. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
