Issue of 2 November 2026

This week's read

There are 117 open Customer Success roles in Japan right now, spread across 87 companies. New postings over the past 30 days rose to 55, up 62% from the 34 posted in the 30 days before that. But look week by week and the picture is a bit more mixed: postings hit 19 in the week of 19 October, then slipped to 17 the following week, a drop of 11% from that peak. The month overall is stronger, but the very latest signal is cooling off.

Roles tend to stay open a while here. The median open role has been live for 51 days, so patience matters if you are applying and waiting to hear back.

Salesforce and AI or machine learning are the two most asked for things in postings, each named in 17% of listings. AWS shows up in 11%, CRM in 10%, and Google Cloud in 9%. Certifications barely register by comparison: CISSP, the most common one, appears in just 5% of postings. SaaS is by far the most common industry context, named in 23% of roles.

Most roles are aimed at people with solid experience, not newcomers. The median minimum years asked for is 5, and 8% of postings want 10 or more years. By title, 69% of open roles are mid-level and 21% are senior, so there is more room in the middle of the ladder than at the entry or top end.

If you need remote work, options are limited: only 11% of open roles are remote. On the employer side, Salesforce (9 open roles), Cisco (8), and Amazon (6) have the most listings among named employers, but the top 8 companies together only account for 29% of all open roles, so most of the hiring is happening outside that group.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect multi-week waits

The median open role has been live for 51 days. Apply and keep moving, don't assume a slow reply means rejection.

  • Highlight Salesforce and AI exposure

Salesforce and AI or machine learning each appear in 17% of postings, more than any other skill. If you have either, make it visible near the top of your resume.

  • Look past the biggest names

The top 8 employers hold only 29% of open roles out of 87 companies hiring. Widen your search beyond Salesforce, Cisco, and Amazon to find openings.

Momentum

New Customer Success roles each week

Last 30 days: 55 new roles, against 34 the 30 days before (+62%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 2 November 2026.
