This week's read
There are 115 open Security Engineer roles in Ireland right now, spread across 61 companies. New postings over the last 30 days jumped 65% compared with the 30 days before that. But look at the week-by-week picture and the story is more mixed: postings peaked at 17 new roles in the week of 12 October and have since eased to 12 a week by late October.
So the market grew over the month, but it is not accelerating week to week anymore. If you are watching this market closely, treat the monthly jump as the headline and the recent weekly dip as the detail worth knowing before you time an application.
This is not an entry-level market. The median posting asks for 5 years of minimum experience, and 18% of roles want 10 years or more. Only 3% of roles are tagged junior, while mid-level and senior titles make up most of what is open. If you are early in your career, this is a market where the bar sits high before you even apply.
Remote work is almost absent here: just 2% of open roles are listed as remote, so plan on being near an office. Pay is rarely posted too, only 28% of listings name a figure, so there is not enough to say what this market typically pays.
On skills, Python shows up in 37% of postings and AWS in 34%, so cloud and scripting knowledge matter more than any single certification. CISSP is still the most named credential, appearing in 33% of postings, well ahead of CISM and CISA. On the hiring side, McKesson has the most open roles of any single employer, and firms like State Street and Amazon sit on Ireland's employment permits sponsor list, worth checking if visa sponsorship matters to you. About a third of all open roles sit at employers with recent visa filings on that list.
What this means for you
Three things you can act on this week
- Expect a high experience bar
Median minimum experience asked is 5 years, and 18% of roles want 10 years or more. Junior roles make up just 3% of postings, so tailor applications toward mid-level or senior framing.
- Do not count on remote
Only 2% of open roles are remote. If location flexibility matters to you, check each listing closely rather than assuming hybrid or remote is on offer.
- Check the visa sponsor list
About a third of open roles sit at employers with recent filings on Ireland's employment permits list, including State Street and Amazon. Worth checking if you need sponsorship.

New Security roles each week
Last 30 days: 66 new roles, against 40 the 30 days before (+65%). Each week counts the same companies, and a role counts as new only in the week it was posted, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth.
