This week's read

The weekly count of new Technical Program Manager postings has slowed a lot since early autumn. The week of 7 September brought 18 new roles, the most of any week tracked. By the week of 26 October, that had fallen to 8, a drop of 56% from that peak. Over the last 30 days, 30 new roles were posted, down from 55 in the 30 days before, a fall of 45%.

Right now there are 106 open roles across 66 companies, and a typical posting stays open 35 days before it is filled or pulled. Hiring is spread fairly wide: the top 8 employers together hold only 33% of all open roles. Celestica International leads that group with 8 open roles, followed by Amazon and Dell with 5 each, then HP and Lam Research with 4, and HSBC, Nxp and Oracle with 3 each.

This is not an entry-level market. Among postings that state a minimum, the median ask is 7 years of experience, and 26% want 10 years or more. Looking at titles, 61% are mid-level, 16% senior, 15% principal and only 1% junior, so most of the competition is in the middle and upper bands.

None of the open roles are listed as remote, so wherever you are applying, expect to be tied to a location. On paper requirements, PMP is named in 32% of postings, well ahead of PRINCE2 and PgMP. Agile and Jira show up most often among ways of working, at 20% and 18%, and AI and machine learning is the most asked-for technical area at 16%. Semiconductors and manufacturing are the two biggest industries behind these roles, named in 15% and 10% of postings.

What this means for you

Three things you can act on this week

  • Expect a high experience bar

The median minimum asked is 7 years, and 1 in 4 postings want 10 years or more. Roles aimed at junior candidates are rare, so lead with senior, multi-year program experience.

  • PMP is the standout certification

PMP appears in about a third of postings, far more than PRINCE2 or PgMP. It is worth knowing whether a given posting expects it before you apply.

  • Don't count on remote work

None of the current open roles are listed as remote. Plan on applying for roles tied to a specific location rather than searching for remote options.

How we count

Ashney reads companies' own careers sites directly, hourly, not job boards. A role posted for many cities counts once, and staffing agencies are left out. A role counts as new in the week it was posted, and every change is measured at the same companies in both periods, so a careers site we start reading never shows up as growth. The written read is by the Ashney Intelligence Engine from this issue's numbers only, and every number and employer in it is checked against them before it is published. This report is written weekly; issue of 7 November 2026.
